Workhorse Group Secures Order From Purolator for 100 Electric Step Vans

Workhorse Group is off to a busy 2026. The Ohio-based manufacturer of battery-electric medium-duty vehicles announced a new order from Canadian logistics provider Purolator for 100 W56 step vans, with deliveries scheduled throughout the year.

The purchase will double the number of step vans Purolator currently operates, significantly expanding its electric fleet. The order builds on Purolator’s earlier EV investments made through Motiv Electric Trucks, which merged with Workhorse late last year.

The announcement follows last week’s reveal of a new W56 variant featuring a 140 kWh battery option, adding to Workhorse’s existing lineup and giving fleet operators more flexibility in matching vehicle specs to route requirements.

Workhorse has now produced and delivered more than 1,100 electric vehicles, including step vans, box trucks, and shuttles, which have collectively logged over 20 million miles in real-world operation. The company manufactures at a commercial-scale facility in Union City, Indiana, capable of producing more than 5,000 vehicles annually on a single shift. Sales move through a nationwide dealer network, with after-sales service handled by regionally deployed technicians trained by Workhorse.

Ten of the largest medium-duty truck fleets in North America currently run Workhorse vehicles. In addition to Purolator, the customer roster includes Vestis, formerly known as Aramark Uniform Services, and Cintas, among other major brands.

“Purolator has a longstanding commitment to adopting new and innovative technologies to make their fleet more efficient and sustainable, and we are honored to continue to support them,” said Scott Griffith, chief executive officer at Workhorse. “This is Purolator’s fourth order over a number of years and an important next step in our longstanding partnership.”

Workhorse Expands W56 Lineup With New 140 kWh Variant

Workhorse Group has introduced a new variant of its W56 battery-electric step van, adding a 140 kWh battery option to its commercial EV lineup.

The new model shares its platform with the higher-capacity 210 kWh W56 and carries over key features including a large cargo area, ergonomic cab design, and commercial-grade durability. It is available in both standard and extended wheelbase configurations.

Pricing sets the two models apart. The 140 kWh variant starts at $169,000 and includes a fully integrated composite body. The 210 kWh version carries a starting price of around $225,000.

“The new 140 kWh version of our W56 step van is a result of listening to customer feedback and purpose-building a product to meet their needs,” said Griffith. “We’ve been able to balance the functional needs of fleets—range, durability, reliability and performance—with a lower entry price to offer a ‘no-compromise’ electric truck.”

The standard wheelbase configuration, at 178 inches, delivers an estimated range of approximately 100 miles per charge at full payload. It offers 1,000 cubic feet of cargo capacity and a payload rating of up to 11,000 pounds, making it a practical option across a wide range of last-mile delivery applications.

Workhorse manufactures the W56 entirely in-house, giving the company direct control over production quality and supply chain consistency.
