Jeep’s New Wagoneer S Luxury Electric SUV Coming Soon
Jeep is marking a significant milestone with the upcoming release of its first global all-electric model, the Wagoneer S, which represents a new chapter for the brand. In line with this launch, Jeep has unveiled a bold new marketing campaign called “Beautiful Things Can Still Get Dirty,” emphasizing that luxury and off-road capability can coexist seamlessly in their new electric SUV.
The campaign’s message highlights that, while the Wagoneer S exudes premium luxury, it’s also built to endure the rugged conditions that Jeep vehicles are known for. Raj Register, Stellantis North America’s marketing chief, explained that the campaign is meant to communicate to consumers that luxury and off-road toughness are not mutually exclusive. Jeep’s Senior Vice President, Bob Broderdorf, further emphasized this idea, stating that their vehicles are designed for dirt and mud—essentially for “doing what they’re meant to do.”
The Wagoneer S is crafted with both rugged terrain and a high-end driving experience in mind, blending its luxury appeal with Jeep’s renowned off-road capability. The new ad campaign, which debuted on Netflix during the football games on Christmas Day, is a testament to Jeep’s commitment to showing that an electric SUV can still carry the brand’s signature spirit of adventure.
The Jeep Wagoneer S is an all-electric luxury SUV that delivers impressive performance and capability. It boasts a powerful 600 horsepower and 617 lb-ft of torque, enabling a rapid 0 to 60 mph sprint in just 3.4 seconds—a performance that rivals some of the most high-performance vehicles on the market.
Equipped with Jeep’s signature Selec-Terrain traction management system, the Wagoneer S is designed to tackle a wide variety of terrains with ease. Drivers can choose from Auto, Sport, Eco, Snow, and Sand modes to optimize performance for different conditions, ensuring the vehicle is ready for anything, from off-road adventures to smooth highway cruising.
The electric SUV is powered by a 100 kWh battery pack paired with a dual-motor powertrain, providing a driving range of over 300 miles on a single charge. For added convenience, the Wagoneer S also supports fast charging, allowing the battery to go from 20% to 80% in just 23 minutes.
Inside, the Wagoneer S continues to impress with its refined interior. It boasts a “best-in-class” 45 inches of total display screen space, providing a highly advanced, tech-driven experience for both drivers and passengers. A standout feature is the segment-exclusive interactive front passenger screen, which adds a unique touch to the SUV’s high-tech interior, offering passengers a more engaging and customized experience during the journey. The vehicle also comes equipped with a standard dual-pane panoramic sunroof.
The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S is set to arrive at US dealerships in January 2025, with a starting price of $71,995 (including a $1,795 destination fee). Buyers of the Wagoneer S will also be eligible for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, making it an attractive option for those looking for a luxury electric SUV with impressive performance and off-road capability.
“This represents a lot. It is the first global [all-electric vehicle] built in North America, designed in the U.S. … for the world,” Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa said. “It is a milestone in our history.”
Filosa, who began leading Jeep in December, said the brand is in “fantastic shape” but it’s in the midst of a “transition like all the automotive brands nowadays” involving electrification.
Filosa also said the company will release electric, extended-range versions of the traditional gas-powered Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer in 2025. Extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) technology, using an engine as a gas-powered generator in addition to EV batteries, is expected to debut on the upcoming Ram Ramcharger pickup truck.
Jeep has teased an upcoming “Trailhawk” trim for the Wagoneer S, which is expected to feature off-road upgrades such as 31.5-inch all-terrain tires and an additional Rock mode for enhanced off-road capability. However, Jeep has not yet revealed a specific launch date for this trim, so enthusiasts will have to stay tuned for more details.
The Wagoneer S, to be produced at a plant in Mexico, is based on Stellantis’ large EV platform, which is expected to underpin eight vehicles for the company from 2024-2026.
Reinvented Styling
Although the Wagoneer S shares the name with Jeep’s current gas-powered model, it is significantly different in design and functionality. This five-passenger, two-row EV departs from its three-row internal combustion engine counterpart, aside from some recognizable Jeep styling elements.
One of the most striking differences is the modern reinterpretation of the brand’s iconic seven-slot grille. Unlike the traditional grille, which is functional for cooling, the grille on the Wagoneer S is purely aesthetic. It is indented, with solid, interconnected slots, rather than the typical seven separate slots. Ralph Gilles, Stellantis’ head of design, expressed his pride in this innovative update, saying, “We reinvented the traditional seven-slot grille.”
The Wagoneer S also features a distinctive design element in the form of a large “R-Wing”, an open spoiler at the rear of the SUV. This design was intended to avoid the overly smooth, “jellybean” shape of many electric vehicles, focusing on a more dynamic and unique look.
Furthermore, the Wagoneer S is significantly less boxy than the gasoline-powered Wagoneer, contributing to its aerodynamic performance. In fact, the Wagoneer S is now the most aerodynamic Jeep ever produced, marking a major advancement in the brand’s EV design while maintaining its rugged, adventurous spirit.
Ralph Gilles, the renowned designer at Stellantis, explained that the Wagoneer name reflects the luxury and premium features of the vehicle rather than a direct link to a specific design.
The interior also features a mix of metal, faux leather, and other sustainable materials, prioritizing both luxury and eco-conscious design. In a move to modernize the vehicle, wood was banned from the interior and chrome was excluded from the exterior, reflecting a shift in design philosophy influenced by younger designers.
“If this is going to be a green vehicle, we had to rethink the materials inside,” Gilles said. “There was a huge push for sustainable materials everywhere.”
Compelling Incentives
To make the transition to electric driving even more convenient, Wagoneer S buyers have the option to choose between a 48-amp Level 2 home charger or a $600 public charging credit. This allows customers to either enhance their home charging setup or take advantage of public charging networks.
Additionally, Jeep recently introduced attractive lease offers for the Wagoneer S, starting at $599 per month for a 36-month lease with 10,000 miles per year. This deal requires a $4,999 down payment and includes a federal $7,500 EV incentive, making it an appealing option for those looking to lease an electric luxury SUV. The lease offer is available until January 2, 2025. EVinfo.net recommends taking advantage of the federal $7,500 EV incentive while you can, as it is expected to be cut sometime after January 20, 2025.
