Sprocket Power’s Microgrids Bring Grid Independence, Reduce Net Utility Expenses up to 90% at 3 Dealerships

BEDFORD HILLS, NY – December 2024

Solar Power, EV charging and Battery Storage highlight The Sprocket Power Integrated Management System

Sprocket Power, a leader in clean energy solutions, recently installed their state-of-the-art microgrids at three Westchester County, NY auto dealerships: Vail GMC Hummer, Croton Auto Park, and Yonkers Honda.

Sprocket Power Microgrids are pioneering the integration of solar power generation and battery storage to meet the growing needs of electric vehicle (EV) charging. By addressing rising utility demand charges, Sprocket Power is utilizing federal programs to cut upgrade costs by up to 60%, significantly reducing net utility bills by as much as 90%.

This innovative approach marks a substantial advancement in the evolution of the New York State energy grid and the future operations of auto dealerships in the era of electrification. Sprocket Power Microgrids create a controlled environment, driving down overall operating costs and enhancing sustainability.

The project at Vail GMC Hummer also involved students at SUNY Purchase, who created an interactive display for the exterior the battery storage system. The illustration offers a performance dashboard to track the system’s ongoing measured impact on business, community and climate. The QR code on the battery ties to a web page that will display the system in operation, measured GHG results and other aspects of system performance. You can see the display here.

The Sprocket Power Microgrid takes advantage of existing technology to create an integrated and managed system that generates and stores solar energy, uses this stored energy as the primary source for EV charging and creates a system capable of optimizing energy use, pull from the grid and grid export according to grid conditions keeping in line with NY State’s ambitious climate goals. The microgrids enhance energy resilience, ensuring that the dealerships can maintain operations even during power outages. “We engineer and build clean energy systems to support EV charging,” said Maria Fields CEO of Sprocket Power. “These systems support improved outcomes for businesses and NY ratepayer alike and represent a forward-looking way to improve grid efficiency”

The initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Sprocket Power and Con Edison. “As more of our customers adopt electric vehicles, we are thinking boldly about ways to serve increased demand, which includes facilitating the buildout of wide-spread and cost-efficient charging infrastructure,” said Britt Reichborn-Kjennerud, Director of E-mobility at Con Edison. Mark Schienberg, President of the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association (GNYADA), commented on this milestone: “Dealerships have led the way in transportation electrification and finding ways to incorporate technology to reduce strains on the power grid. These three business owners are providing additional leadership with these forward looking installations, showcasing how sustainable practices can benefit both business strength and the New York energy system.”
