Tom Brady’s EV Powerboat Team Wins E1 World Championship and Inaugural Blue Impact Title
Last week, NFL Quarterback Tom Brady’s all-electric powerboat team captured both the 2025 E1 World Championship and the inaugural Blue Impact Championship, linking competitive success on the water with measurable environmental impact. The dual victory marks a first for the all-electric racing series, where sustainability performance is formally recognized alongside race results.
The E1 World Championship is the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing series, created to redefine marine motorsport through innovation, sustainability, and elite competition. Featuring identical electric raceboats and teams owned by global sports and entertainment figures, the championship combines high-performance racing with a clear environmental mission.
Team Brady’s championship season follows its 2024 title win and reinforces the E1 Series’ growing emphasis on environmental responsibility. Sustainability is now embedded as a core pillar of the sport through the Blue Impact Championship, a parallel competition among the nine teams that evaluates ecological initiatives in addition to racing performance.

Presented by Bombay Sapphire, the Blue Impact Championship assesses each team’s season-long efforts to protect and restore aquatic ecosystems. Team Brady secured the top spot through its “Race for Change” program, which commits the team to removing 100 kilograms of ocean plastic for every championship point earned. With 195 points scored, the initiative led to the removal of nearly 20 tonnes of plastic in partnership with the 4ocean Foundation. The 100-kilogram benchmark reflects the average amount of plastic generated by one person annually, linking individual consumption to collective environmental action.
Other E1 teams focused on initiatives such as coral reef restoration and marine biodiversity protection. A jury of sustainability leaders from Bacardi, the One Ocean Foundation, Oceans2050, and the MSC Foundation evaluated programs based on measurable impact, collaboration, creativity, and fan engagement.

Tom Brady said the Race for Change platform delivered tangible results and proved that purpose-driven sport can create real impact. Strategic partnerships with WaterAid, OceanR, and 4ocean supported these efforts, with OceanR supplying crew uniforms made from recycled plastic bottles and WaterAid helping raise awareness around global access to clean drinking water.
The Blue Impact Championship represents E1’s broader strategy to embed environmental responsibility into electric powerboat racing. The series has appointed Carlos Duarte as Chief Scientist to anchor sustainability efforts, reinforcing the idea that elite sport can be a powerful force for positive environmental change.

Bombay Sapphire Distillery, Presenting Partner of E1’s Blue Impact Championship
The announcement of this year’s E1 Blue Impact Championship winners took place at the Bombay Sapphire Distillery at Laverstoke Mill, a location that reflects the sustainability principles at the heart of the championship. The distillery serves as the home of E1’s official gin partner and the presenting partner of the Blue Impact award. Bombay Sapphire is part of the Bacardi portfolio, and Bacardi’s Vice President for Corporate Sustainability, Global Safety and Quality, Rodolfo Nervi, plays a central role on the championship’s judging panel.
Laverstoke Mill is widely recognized for its environmentally responsible design. Created by acclaimed designer Thomas Heatherwick, the distillery operates with exceptional resource efficiency, recycling or converting into energy more than 99% of its waste. It has achieved an “Outstanding” rating from BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology,) the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for buildings and infrastructure.
These sustainability credentials extend to the product itself, as Bombay Sapphire gin is made using a carefully selected blend of 10 botanicals sourced from certified sustainable suppliers.
The collaboration between Bombay Sapphire and E1 is anchored in the brand’s Step Into The Blue™ global initiative, which encourages deeper appreciation for the natural world while highlighting moments of creativity and inspiration. This alignment of values has made the partnership a natural fit.
By bringing together electric racing, sustainable design, and environmental advocacy, the partnership illustrates how innovation and responsibility can reinforce one another. The Blue Impact Championship continues to show that progress in sport can drive meaningful environmental outcomes, creating benefits that extend well beyond the racecourse.
