Driving electric vehicle adoption

NYCEDC and Wildflower to Build the Largest Public EV Charging Station in New York City

On December 23, 2025, the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and Wildflower, a New York City based developer focused on sustainable urban infrastructure, announced the sale of land to Wildflower for the development of the largest publicly accessible electric vehicle (EV) charging station in New York City. The project will initially deliver 65 EV ready charging stalls, including a minimum of 12 rapid chargers, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Built with scalability in mind, the site will expand over time to meet increasing demand and support a wide range of vehicles, including electric trucks. Construction is expected to begin in 2026.

Beyond the charging facility itself, Wildflower has committed to a 30 percent minority and/or women owned business enterprise (M/WBE) participation goal and will host a local hiring event. The project will play a key role in advancing New York City’s Green Economy Action Plan, announced in 2024, which seeks to activate EV charging infrastructure and accelerate the adoption of low carbon transportation alternatives.

“NYCEDC is thrilled to celebrate this important milestone for Wildflower as this investment will transform this site and result in a number of positive changes for southeast Queens including electric vehicle charging stations as well as much-needed parking space,” said NYCEDC President & CEO Andrew Kimball. “These types of projects are critical in meeting New York City’s ambitious sustainability goals and when completed, Wildflower’s parking station will serve as a great resource for New Yorkers who are making a green transition towards electric vehicles.”

“Wildflower is building the largest EV fast-charging station in New York City; a vote for clean energy, the green economy, and a forward-looking investment in the city’s future,” said Wildflower Founder Adam Gordon. “In a market without large public parking attached to grocery stores and drug stores, private sector charging infrastructure becomes vital, creating jobs and a path to the electric vehicle transition where it didn’t exist.”

The development aligns with the City’s broader economic and sustainability strategies, including Rebuild, Renew, Reinvent: A Blueprint for New York City’s Economic Recovery and PlaNYC: Getting Sustainability Done. The Green Economy Action Plan, introduced by NYCEDC, and the Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development (NYCTalent), outlines initiatives to drive economic growth, foster public private partnerships, create thousands of jobs, and prepare New Yorkers, particularly those from environmentally disadvantaged communities, for nearly 400,000 projected green collar jobs by 2040.

NYCEDC is a mission driven, nonprofit organization dedicated to building a vibrant, inclusive, and globally competitive economy for all New Yorkers by strengthening the city’s business climate, growing innovative and equitable industries, building thriving neighborhoods, and delivering sustainable infrastructure.

Wildflower develops forward looking urban infrastructure addressing commerce, community, and sustainability, with projects spanning EV and logistics parking, e commerce facilities, community solar, housing, and cultural spaces. Its portfolio includes a network of advanced logistics centers supporting global e commerce operations. Wildflower Studios, the world’s first vertical film studio was developed in partnership with Legendary actor Robert De Niro. De Niro is famously associated with the Kia e-Niro electric vehicle, serving as a brand ambassador for its European launch in 2018, and for his highly commendable activism in politics.
