All-New 2026 Nissan LEAF EV Named a 2026 KBB Best Buy Award Winner

The all-new, all-electric 2026 Nissan LEAF added two more honors to its expanding list of accolades after being recognized in the 2026 Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Awards. Nissan reported on January 23, 2026, that the model earned wins in both the Best New Model category and Best Electric Vehicle (EV) Under $35,000. The ground-breaking vehicle is available for sale now in the United States.

Kelley Blue Book editors cited the LEAF’s contemporary design, EPA-estimated driving range of up to 303 miles per charge, compatibility with North American Charging Standard fast chargers, and accessible pricing. The LEAF S+ grade carries a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $29,990, undercutting the inflation-adjusted price of the original 2011 LEAF.

These latest awards build on a growing list of industry recognition for the all-new LEAF, which includes InsideEVs Breakthrough EV of the Year, Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems, World’s Best Compact Car from the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year jury, and multiple honors at the inaugural Buzz Awards, including Car of the Year, Best EV, and Best Budget Vehicle.

Now in its 12th year, the Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Awards identify standout vehicles across segments through extensive testing and evaluation. Criteria include comfort, cargo space, features, infotainment systems, build quality, driving experience, pricing data, and projected ownership costs, reinforcing the LEAF’s positioning as a strong value proposition in the electric vehicle market.

The 2026 Nissan LEAF continues the model’s long-standing emphasis on reliable, affordable, and appealing electric vehicle ownership while introducing a fully reimagined design. Clean, dynamic body lines create a sleek profile paired with a more SUV-like stance, reinforcing its mass-market appeal. A built-in NACS port with Plug and Charge functionality enables streamlined access to NACS chargers.

Technology remains a core focus, with features that include an available segment-first dimming panoramic roof, standard class-exclusive Intelligent AroundView Monitor, 64-color ambient interior lighting, flush door handles, distinctive 3D holographic tail lamps, and available dual 14.3-inch displays with Google Built-in, including Google Maps integration.

The third-generation LEAF features a fully redesigned crossover-style exterior focused on aerodynamic efficiency, with a drag coefficient reduced to 0.26. Design highlights include distinctive lighting elements, bold color options, and Nissan’s “2-3” visual motif throughout the vehicle. Inside, the cabin is more spacious and minimalist, with improved rear legroom, a flat floor, and up to 55.5 cubic feet of cargo space.

Power comes from a new 75 kWh liquid-cooled battery paired with a 214-horsepower motor, with a smaller 52 kWh battery option arriving later for buyers seeking lower cost and range. Charging performance is improved with peak speeds up to 150 kW and dual charge ports supporting both J1772 and NACS. Cold-weather performance is enhanced through advanced thermal management, heat recovery, a heat pump, and an available battery heater.

Technology and safety are central to the new LEAF, with available Bose Personal Plus audio, comprehensive driver assistance via Nissan Safety Shield 360, ProPILOT Assist, advanced camera systems, and a new secondary collision mitigation braking system. Extensive global testing under extreme conditions was conducted to ensure reliability, charging compatibility, and driver confidence across real-world use.
