Driving electric vehicle adoption

Pod Partners With Uber to Deliver Discounted Home EV Charging for UK Rideshare Drivers

Pod has partnered with Uber to remove one of the biggest barriers facing ride-hailing drivers who want to switch to electric vehicles: access to affordable home charging. The new collaboration introduces an industry-first subscription model designed specifically for UK Uber drivers, making it easier and more financially practical to transition to EVs. Pod announced the news on February 24, 2026.

For rideshare drivers, charging is not just about convenience. It directly affects earnings. Public rapid chargers can be expensive and time consuming, reducing margins and productivity. The most economical and efficient charging typically happens at home overnight when electricity rates are lower and vehicles are not in use. However, upfront equipment and installation costs have historically prevented many drivers from installing a home charger.

Pod Drive addresses this challenge by eliminating the initial financial hurdle. Through the program, Uber drivers can access a Pod home EV charger for £25 per month over three years with no upfront set up or installation costs. The subscription includes Which?-accredited installation, a Pod home charger, 24/7 customer support, a lifetime warranty, and up to £170 per year in smart charging cash rewards. By bundling hardware, installation, service, and incentives into a predictable monthly payment, the model converts a significant capital expense into a manageable operating cost.

Andrew Brem, General Manager, UK at Uber, said: “We’re delighted to bring Uber Electric to eight new cities across the UK and offer even more people an emissions-free trip at the same price as an UberX. It’s clear that electric is better for riders, drivers and cities but access to charging is the biggest barrier for drivers thinking about making the switch to electric. Uber is helping to unlock more charging infrastructure in the UK, making charging easier and bringing down costs for drivers.”

Debbie Foley, Chief Revenue Officer at Pod, said: “Our partnership with Uber shows how innovators in mobility can accelerate electric driving together. In removing upfront costs for drivers to get a home charger, and helping them cover charging costs through cash rewards, we’re making it easier to use an EV for everyday work. It also helps more people choose Uber Electric, bringing electric living into the mainstream and enabling cleaner transport across UK cities.”

Pod, founded in 2009, is one of the UK’s leading EV charging providers, with more than 250,000 chargers installed and over 6 billion electric miles powered. The company delivers smart charging solutions for homes, workplaces, and new-build residential developments, supporting both individual drivers and large commercial partners.

Originally launched to help early EV adopters transition to electric mobility, Pod has evolved into a major player in the UK’s broader energy transition. Its large installed base and technical expertise enable it to manage charging demand in ways that benefit both customers and the electricity grid. Through smart charging technology, Pod helps balance grid load, reduce charging costs, and expand access to clean energy.

The company works with major automotive brands and commercial organizations while positioning itself as a key enabler of a cleaner, more flexible energy system. In addition to hardware and installation services, Pod provides customer support, financing options, and community-focused initiatives aimed at making electrification simple, affordable, and accessible across the UK.
