Rivian Will Begin Sending Invites for Customer R2 Orders Starting on June 9th

Rivian has officially set June 9 as the launch date for customer ordering, demo drives, and the first deliveries of its highly anticipated R2 electric SUV. The milestone marks the beginning of the next chapter for the automaker as it prepares to bring its more affordable EV to customers across the United States.

Starting June 9, reservation holders will begin receiving invitations to configure and order their R2. Customers can already build and save their preferred configuration online, selecting colors, interior options, wheels, and available packages ahead of receiving their order invitation.

Order invitations will be sent in waves as production and deliveries ramp up. Rivian says reservation timestamp and delivery location will be the primary factors determining when customers receive access to place an order. Areas located near Rivian Service and Demo Centers are expected to receive invitations earlier because vehicles can be delivered more efficiently during the initial rollout.

The company will also prioritize existing R1 owners, although Rivian says it is balancing deliveries between current owners and new customers to keep the process moving fairly. Customers with leases nearing expiration may also receive consideration if they provide lease information through their Rivian account. Additionally, Rivian has included a randomly selected group of reservation holders in early invitation batches to help refine delivery timing estimates.

The first version available will be the R2 Performance with the Launch Package, which includes Rivian’s Autonomy+ driver assistance system. Customers who receive an invitation but prefer a future trim level can keep their reservation priority and wait for later releases. Rivian plans to introduce the R2 Premium trim in late 2026, followed by the Standard trim in 2027.

Once an order is confirmed, Rivian expects deliveries to take place within two to six weeks.

June 9 will also mark the beginning of public R2 demo drives. Vehicles will begin arriving at Rivian Spaces nationwide, allowing customers to experience the SUV in person and get behind the wheel. Reservation holders who have received order invitations will receive priority access to demo drive appointments.

For customers not ready to order immediately, Rivian says invitations will remain active, allowing buyers to wait for additional colors, interior options, or future vehicle configurations before finalizing their purchase.

With deliveries finally set to begin, the R2 is moving from concept to reality and represents one of Rivian’s most important vehicle launches to date.
