Lucid Expands EV Battery Supply Chain in the US
Lucid Motors is accelerating its commitment to the U.S. EV battery supply chain as the push for “American-made” electric vehicles intensifies. The company, already known for manufacturing its sleek luxury EVs and critical components in Arizona, has now secured a pivotal deal to source graphite—a key EV battery ingredient—entirely from U.S. suppliers.
Lucid’s new multi-year supply agreement with Graphite One, signed on Wednesday, reinforces its efforts to anchor its production in the U.S. Graphite One will source the natural graphite from its site near Nome, Alaska, and refine it into active anode material (AAM) at its future plant in Ohio. This domestic graphite will debut in Lucid’s next-generation EVs starting in 2028.

Lucid’s interim CEO, Marc Winterhoff, underscored the broader significance of the move, stating that growing Lucid’s U.S. supply chain “drives our nation’s economy, increases our independence against outside factors or market dynamics.” This independence is crucial as the EV industry faces ongoing supply chain challenges and geopolitical pressures.
The Alaska-Ohio partnership is just one piece of Lucid’s broader strategy. Beginning in 2026, Syrah Resources will also supply Lucid and its U.S. battery suppliers with natural graphite AAM from its facility in Louisiana. Winterhoff recently highlighted Lucid’s advantageous position in the U.S. market, noting that “we produce all of the vehicles we sell and major components like our drive units, battery modules and packs in Arizona.” However, he cautioned that “changes in policy bring about uncertainty” for all automakers.
The domestically sourced graphite will power Lucid’s new midsize platform, slated for launch in the second half of 2026. Expected to debut with an electric SUV and sedan, these midsize EVs will start around $50,000—a clear play to broaden Lucid’s appeal and bring premium EV performance to a wider audience.
Meanwhile, Lucid is staying focused on its flagship Gravity SUV, which has begun rolling out in its Grand Touring trim, offering up to 450 miles of range and priced from $94,900. A more affordable Touring trim, starting at $79,900, will join the lineup later this year.
To further entice buyers, Lucid is slashing prices on its luxurious Air sedans, offering discounts of up to $31,500 on 2025 models throughout June.
Lucid’s strategic shift to domestic battery materials is a powerful symbol of the growing momentum behind U.S.-based EV manufacturing and supply chains. As the Gravity hits the road and midsize models move closer to production, Lucid is cementing its role not just as a luxury EV pioneer, but as a champion of American-made electric mobility.
