Driving electric vehicle adoption

Kia Unveiled the Exciting Vision Meta Turismo Concept

Concept vehicles play a critical role in shaping the future of the automotive industry. More than design exercises, they function as rolling laboratories, testing new ideas in styling, technology, performance, and user experience long before they reach production. For automakers, concept cars offer a way to signal strategic direction, explore consumer reactions, and stretch the boundaries of what is possible without the constraints of manufacturing or regulatory requirements.

Kia is moving forward with plans for another electric vehicle, but this one will stand apart as a new flagship halo model, and we already have a strong sense of what it could look like. The key question now is whether it will arrive as the EV7 or EV8.

For the third consecutive year, Kia posted record global sales, and the South Korean automaker shows no signs of easing its expansion. Much of that momentum is being driven by a rapidly growing all-electric portfolio. Kia’s EV lineup now spans entry-level models (EV2), compact (EV3), midsize (EV5), three-row SUVs (EV9), a crossover (EV6), a sedan and hatchback (EV4), and a van (PV5).

According to Kia’s head of advanced design, Jochen Paesen, the brand is now ready to introduce a new flagship halo EV. Speaking with Auto Express, Paesen said, “We think it is the right time to explore these things,” adding that Kia had already offered a preview of the vehicle last month.

That preview came in December, when Kia marked its 80th anniversary by unveiling the Vision Meta Turismo Concept, which it described as “the starting point toward the new mobility we have all dreamed of.” While Paesen emphasized that the concept is “not the only answer,” he said it reflects Kia’s belief that now is the right moment to push and explore new ideas.

The Vision Meta Turismo pays homage to the long-distance touring cars of the 1960s, reinterpreted through a futuristic lens and Kia’s “Opposites United” design philosophy. Following the launch of the EV3 GT, EV4 GT, and EV5 GT, Kia has also been clear that its performance models are about more than outright power.

“How do you create something that is more emotional and still has our core values?” Paesen asked. He explained that the concept can be a high-performance machine if desired, but it also challenges traditional ideas of excitement in an increasingly digital world. Inside, that philosophy translates to fewer screens and a more immersive, emotionally rich experience.

While Kia has yet to confirm a name or specifications for the new halo EV, the production model is expected to closely mirror the Vision Meta Turismo concept. Historically, Kia’s production EVs have remained very faithful to their concept designs.

When it launches, the flagship is likely to carry the EV7 or EV8 name, both of which Kia has already trademarked as part of a planned EV1-to-EV9 lineup. According to Auto Express, it could also emerge as an electric successor to the Stinger, carrying that nameplate into a new era.
