AmpUp Powers Up Connecticut With a $1.7 Million Grant To Boost Smart Grid Management

Connecticut’s electric future just got brighter. The Connecticut Public Utility Regulatory Authority (PURA) has awarded AmpUp, a leading electric vehicle (EV) charging platform, up to $1.7 million for its innovative approach to EV charging management. The funding, secured through PURA’s “Innovative Energy Solutions” program on December 13th, is a significant step towards creating a cleaner, more resilient, and equitable electric grid in the state. This move not only endorses the pivotal role of EVs in reducing carbon footprints but also indicates the state’s commitment to fostering sustainable and smart energy solutions.

The project primarily targets peak energy demand, a critical hurdle in modernizing the power grid. AmpUp’s cutting-edge technology will intelligently control the charging process at stations, smoothing out demand fluctuations. This mitigation of peak demand periods means lower strain on the grid, leading to substantial cost savings for electricity consumers. Overall, this initiative represents a groundbreaking strategy in managing energy consumption, aligning with the broader aim of implementing sustainable and efficient energy solutions.

“We’re thrilled to accelerate the EV transition in Connecticut,” says Tom Sun, AmpUp co-founder and CEO. “This grant fuels our collaboration with utilities, station owners, and drivers to deliver smart charging solutions.”

AmpUp is leading, not just innovating. Selected as one of only seven projects from a pool of over 50 applicants, AmpUp distinguishes itself as the sole EV charging company to receive funding in this phase. The company’s unwavering commitment to clean air and equitable access is perfectly in tune with Connecticut’s ambitious climate objectives. This synergistic alignment of vision and purpose underscores the potential of this partnership to produce measurable advancements in sustainable energy solutions, propelling Connecticut toward a cleaner, greener, and more resilient electric future.

“AmpUp’s technology makes EV charging simple, affordable, and accessible,” stated Drew D’Alelio of Connecticut Innovations. “This project paves the way for economic and environmental benefits, and CI’s Climate Fund is proud to support AmpUp’s continued growth in Connecticut.”

AmpUp’s impressive track record speaks volumes about their commitment and expertise in this industry. Currently, they manage over 30% of the state’s networked Level 2 chargers, which is a significant portion. Their network’s reliability is proven by a 96.4% charge success rate, showcasing the high level of service they provide to EV owners. Having control over 94% of private chargers further solidifies their deep roots in the local EV landscape. In a demonstration of its ongoing commitment to improving the EV charging infrastructure and expanding its local presence, AmpUp is set to open a new office in East Hartford in early 2024. This move will allow them to better serve their customers and continue making meaningful contributions to the state’s clean energy goals.

Connecticut is charging ahead toward a clean energy future, and AmpUp is leading the charge. This $1.7 million grant isn’t just a financial boost; it’s a vote of confidence in a company that is building a smarter, greener grid for generations to come. AmpUp’s focus on efficient and accessible EV charging solutions aligns perfectly with the state’s sustainability goals. By continuing to invest in such innovative projects and companies, Connecticut solidifies its commitment to achieving a sustainable future and sets a powerful example for other regions to follow.
