A3 Global Opens Hybrid and EV Battery Remanufacturing Center of Excellence

A3 Global, a visionary company at the forefront of mobility’s future, has announced the inauguration of its hybrid and electric vehicle battery remanufacturing Center of Excellence, located in Phoenixville, PA. With capacity to remanufacture hundreds of hybrid vehicle batteries each month, the center showcases cutting-edge reconditioning equipment supplied by NuVant Systems – a subsidiary of A3 Global. This significant advancement aligns with A3 Global’s commitment to sustainable development and illustrates its key role in driving the shift towards green mobility solutions.

The reconditioned battery modules undergo a meticulous process of assembly into a new battery pack, breathing a second life into the battery. This rejuvenated battery pack is then reinstalled into a vehicle, effectively extending the battery’s lifecycle and enhancing the vehicle’s performance. A3 Global is taking a step further in its pursuit of sustainable mobility, with plans on the horizon to begin servicing electric vehicle lithium-ion batteries from its esteemed Center of Excellence in 2023. This forward-thinking initiative is set to significantly advance the green mobility sector, providing a much-needed boost to the global effort towards sustainable development.

Nickel metal hydride (NiMH) hybrid vehicle batteries that are exhibiting suboptimal performance or approaching their end-of-life can be restored to fully operational, like-new conditions through a specialized reconditioning process. This process is possible thanks to the NuVant EVC-30, a state-of-the-art piece of equipment developed by the esteemed Professor Smotkin at Northeastern University. Following reconditioning, these battery modules are carefully reassembled into a new battery pack, and subsequently reinstalled into a vehicle – effectively breathing a second life into the battery. However, there are instances when certain modules cannot be reconditioned. For such cases, A3 Global has engineered a proprietary technique to remanufacture battery packs, utilizing a combination of OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and aftermarket modules, thereby ensuring no battery goes to waste.

“Together with the science developed by NuVant to recondition battery modules and the three generations of experience in remanufacturing at A3 Global, we’re able to combine our efforts to develop this Center of Excellence,” said Michael Cardone III, A3 Global’s CEO.

“For vehicle owners, having their battery remanufactured is an alternative to buying a new battery, which is expensive and has a negative environmental impact,” said Aaron Poynton, Chief Commercial Officer. “The average car is on the road for over 12 years, but the batteries don’t typically last that long, especially fleet vehicles,” he continued.

Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan toured the new facility and said, “As an engineer and entrepreneur myself, it’s exciting to see quality, high-technology manufacturing jobs coming into the district. Southeastern Pennsylvania is home to many of the top businesses and leading innovators this country has to offer, so it’s no surprise we are continuing to grow. In Congress, I have strongly supported legislation to diversify American energy sources, and today I saw how the A3 Global battery remanufacturing center will help reduce our reliance on new batteries and contribute to a cleaner and healthier America. I look forward to seeing their work positively impact our community.”

A3 Global plans to begin servicing electric vehicle lithium-ion batteries from its Center of Excellence in 2023.
