EV Basics
The basic information an EV buyer needs to know:
Cost of Ownership
When considering buying a new vehicle, several factors need to be considered. Compare features, prices and fuel economy.
MPGe & Range
The meaning of MPGe, and the range, how far an EV will travel on a full charge.
Lithium-Ion batteries are the standard for EVs, the same batteries that cell phones and other electronics use.
EV motors are much more efficient than gas-powered vehicles.
Maintenance
Maintenance that an EV owner must perform to keep the vehicle running well is minimal. Because an EV has much fewer moving parts than a gas-powered vehicle, maintenance costs are much lower for EVs. The things that a driver needs to check regularly on a gas-powered vehicle, such as oil, coolant, transmission and power steering fluid don’t exist in EVs.
History
EVs were produced before gasoline powered vehicles, and were thought to be superior. Cheap gasoline, and the low priced Ford model A established the dominance of the gas powered vehicle. In 2022, the growth of EV and battery technology, combined with ever-rising gasoline prices, have promised an exciting EV revolution, causing an unprecedented disruption in the automobile industry.
Explosive EV Adoption Growth
The global share of new passenger EVs has increased at an average of about 50% per year since 2015. If this continues, EVs would be 50% of all light-duty vehicle sales by 2026 and 100% by 2028, if the right enabling factors are in place.
