Driving electric vehicle adoption

Wallbox and Uber Extend Partnership to Boost Access to Home Chargers Across Europe

Wallbox (NYSE: WBX), a global leader in Electric Vehicle (EV) charging and energy management solutions, recently expanded its partnership with ride-hailing giant Uber (NYSE:UBER). As a result of this collaboration, Uber drivers in seven European countries can now access discounted home EV chargers. This ambitious move is a stride forward in promoting the adoption of electric vehicles across the continent and contributes significantly towards a cleaner and greener environment.

The extended partnership between Wallbox and Uber will operate in seven European countries: the UK, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, France, Portugal, and Belgium. This collaborative effort builds on the success of their previous partnership in the US and Canada, launched in 2021.

Uber’s support for drivers transitioning to electric vehicles is instrumental in their ambition to become a zero-emissions platform in Europe by 2030. In fact, the company aims to achieve 100% EV usage in cities such as London by as early as 2025. The rate at which drivers are adopting electric vehicles in Europe is nearly five times faster than the average European private car owner. Currently, 6.2% of kilometers driven on the Uber platform across Europe are fully electric.

However, access to charging infrastructure, both at home and on-street, remains a significant barrier for drivers contemplating the switch to electric. To address this, the partnership will offer drivers on the Uber platform a discounted rate on home chargers from Wallbox, including installation. This initiative is expected to further incentivize the adoption of electric vehicles among Uber drivers.

Masud Rabbani, CBO Wallbox, said: “We are delighted to expand our successful partnership with Uber. At Wallbox, we want to make the transition to EV as smooth and simple for drivers as possible and we believe our products offer that to drivers on the Uber platform around Europe. We look forward to this partnership developing over the coming years.”

Chris Hook, Head of Global Sustainability Strategy at Uber, said: “We want to be the cleanest mobility platform on the planet, becoming a 100% electric platform across Europe by 2030. Partnerships with private and public stakeholders will be key to this success.

“Drivers consistently tell us that lack of easily accessible charging is an important concern. By expanding our collaboration with Wallbox in Europe we hope this will help address this key barrier for switching to EVs and help ensure drivers can make the switch as seamlessly and as soon as possible.”
